about

This is one of my favorite J.J. Johnson compositions. Saxophonist Lin Halliday loved this tune which was featured on Miles Davis's 1953 Blue Note album Volume 2. Lin wanted to perform this in our quartet, but fell ill. I transcribed the song and told him when he heals, we'll play it, but he died before we could perform it. This recording was made a few months before he passed in early 2000, and is dedicated to Lin's memory.
